A steam train ride, gourmet lunch, and a scenic bike ride – a perfect day out in Central Victoria
The Maldon Rail Trail tour starts at the Castlemaine Railway Station where we meet at 11.00am. Enjoy the arrival of the Victorian Goldfields Railway steam train at 11.15am as bikes are loaded into GBA’s shuttle. After an orientation chat about the day’s tour we’ll board the steam train, departing for Maldon at 11.45am. Sit back and enjoy the steam travel experience as the train passes through Muckleford Station and Box-Iron Bark forest on its way to Maldon.
Arriving at the Maldon Railway Station at approximately 12.30pm we’ll meet GBA’s shuttle, unload our bikes and ride into the centre of town and enjoy a leisurely gourmet lunch at Wicked Temptations with ample time for a stroll around town, or for the more adventurous an accompanied ride to Anzac Hill or the summit of Mt Tarrengower to enjoy the views over Central Victoria.
We’ll regroup at 1.30pm and head back towards Castlemaine along the Rail Trail passing through the Maldon Historic Reserve, enjoying the gentle descent into Muckleford. The GBA shuttle will be waiting for us at Muckleford where afternoon tea will be provided. Refueled, we’ll continue on to Castlemaine arriving back at the Railway Station at approximately 4.00pm.
